Thanks to Tom's sharp ears, three of us were able to watch the Purple Gallinule for about ten minutes (just after 8am) this morning. It was heard first, and then spotted in the reeds. It was just off of the main parking area--we actually were standing just in front of our cars. It did not move around much, but eventually just moved further back and out of sight.

The gallinule was spotted by Marcia Stutzman somewhere around 2:00 p.m.
today. From the parking, it was straight out the dike, take the first
right dike, and at the point where it turned 90 degrees to the right. She
saw it on the left. She called me and Kye over, as it had flown only a
very short distance. As we proceeded further it flushed, but all I saw
was a blur in the foliage. Several folks lingered at that spot for an
hour, I heard one squeak that could have been it, but no positive
sightings as of when I left shortly after 3:00.
