The concensus from responses so far is that the bird is likely a female Scarlet Tanager, which would be much more likely considering the habitat and range, so I'll go with Occam's Razor and leave it at that. It was weird to see it on the ground like that though. The bird just seemed too small and the bill too blunt, but it was a quick look in dim light and the lack of another bird to give size perspective didn't help matters. Thanks for the responses.
