I gave a birding presentation and led a field trip with 40 elementary school
kids at Deerfield Run Elementary School in Laurel this evening. This was a
follow-up to the huge playground equipment which we built last week. Also a
nature trail, outdoor classroom, butterfly and vegetable garden along with
benches were built. There were over 250 volunteers working on these projects
with the majority of funding from Disney. Special thanks to Jeff & Karen
Culler for helping with the build, Bill Hubick for photos for the
presentation, and Mike Kerwin for loaning me ~ 35 pairs of binoculars.
It was very interesting that one little girl has a summer project to be
able to identify 20 species of birds. She is well on her way to this goal.
