I am working a conference in OC today. And since my daughter decided to wake up at 3:30 this morning, I thought I'd get down here early and see what was strolling about on Skimmer Island. Highlights:
-At least 9, possibly 17 RED KNOT
-5 Brown Pelican
-1 Short-billed Dowitcher
-loads of Dunlin (no Curlew Sandpipers, they're all in NJ I suppose)
-5 Black Skimmer (more likely, but they were all roosting on the high part of the island.
-Common, Royal, Forster's and Least Terns aplenty.
-Cattle, Great & Snowy Egrets (no Littles)
At the OC Inlet, several young Northern Gannets were feeding several hundred yards out in the ocean.
Finally, at the convention center, a Clapper Rail was calling from the marsh as I got out of my car and a Brown Pelican was flying South.
Good Birding,
