The Point was open when I went by around 8 am. Since high tide was around mid day, I assume it should be open now.

P.S. Thanks to folks who have mentioned that they have also recently seen migrating Great Crested Flycaters. It's very possible, even probable that what I saw was a GC Flycatcher, but if anyone had/has time to check out the Point, I wanted to give them a chance to confirm the ID. Good birding!

Was the Point closed or open? It's been closed a lot recently -- we had to
walk couple of times...

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Slight chance for Ash-throated Flycatcher
Hi All,
This morning at the far southern end of Hains Point (A.K.A. East Potomac
Park, DC), I found what at first I thought was a Great Crested Flycatcher.
I
never got a good look at it, but when I did see the face, it seemed to be a
lighter gray than normal and overall a little smaller. The bird was also
quite skittish and kept moving from tree to tree, just out of sight.
I AM NOT SAYING THIS ISN'T a Great-crested Flycatcher (e.g.
Ash-throated Flycatcher), but it seems kind of late for GC Flycatchers to
be
migrating, and as a wonderful migrant trap, this is the place I would
assume a lost bird might show up.
If you happen to be in the area, you might want to roll the dice and see if
you get lucky and can relocate this interesting bird.
Good Birding!
