Hi all,
Thought the cloudy day might be better for Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.
Even there it was quiet, that is, few migrants although the resident
breeding birds were vocal. Best bird was a heard-only KENTUCKY
WARBLER, in the damp area between the two boardwalks. Not a
commonly-encountered bird in DC anymore. We had four other warbler
species, of these only two were migrants, a bright singing Magnolia (last
of the spring?) and a single Blackpoll announcing the end of migration.
Not a single raptor of any sort, a bit unusual here...
A brief survey of Kenilworth Park added a few species but no hoped-for
Blue Grosbeak, Willow FC or Chat. Maybe they were just turning quiet as
the rain started...
