Dorchester & Caroline Counties -- 5/29/11

Hey everyone,

Ed Boyd, Jim Stasz, Hans Holbrook and myself spent most of yesterday
birding in Dorchester and Caroline Counties.  We focused on field and
woodland breeders.  Highlights include:

Hole-In-The-Wall Cemetery (Talbot)
Dickcissel -- 1 male bird sitting well to the north of the cemetery in
the shrubby field.  Need scope to view well.

Egypt Rd (Dorchester)
Least Tern -- 9
Horned Lark -- 3 birds singing
Dickcissel -- 6 four males, two females, all viewed in the northern
stretch of the rd in the new impoundment area just south of Maple
School
Eastern Meadowlark -- 1 Heard singing in the fields to the east of the road.

Egypt Rd swamp (Dorchester)
Yellow-breasted Chat -- 2
Prothonotary Warbler -- 2

Little Blackwater River @ Seward (Dorchester)
American White Pelican -- 1 Still there.

Decoursey Bridge Rd @ Hurlock Creek
Prothonotary Warbler -- 3

Drawbridge Rd Transquaking River boat ramp (Dorchester)
Hairy Woodpecker -- 1
Prothonotary Warbler -- 1
Eastern Meadowlark -- 1 Heard calling from the ag area to the east of the river

Maiden Forest Rd stream crossing (Dorchester)
Prothonotary Warbler -- 2

Kraft Rd (Dorchester)
Prairie Warbler -- 1
Summer Tanager -- 1

Brookview Sandpit--PRIVATE (Dorchester)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow -- 1 observed coming out of nesting hole
Bank Swallow -- 5

Brookview Bridge over the Marshy Hope River (Dorchester)
Least Tern -- 2
Cliff Swallow -- 4
Prothonotary Warbler -- 1 on the town side of the river

followed a logging trail along the creek that crosses Puckham Rd to
the west towards the Marshy Hope River.  We were able to identify four
individual LOWA, with one being a recently fledged young with no tail.
 The other three birds were heard singing and chipping.
