I just came back from an evening walk thru wood thrush city! At least that's how it felt. I live just above Sligo Creek Park just upstream from Piney Branch, and can walk from my door down thru the woods to come out at the tennis courts. Today between 7:30 and 8:30 pm I walked only about a half mile out (to Park Valley Rd, I think). Starting with the ones heard before I even left our (that is Top of the Park's) woods and got into the park, I counted at least 7 probably 8 wood thrushes. You are never out of earshot of them for more than a minute walking there--it's really rather magical, esp. in the evening like this. Only thing I missed was - there's usually a veery in one part of that stretch, and I didn't hear it. (Haven't so far this year, but I haven't walked there in the pm so much as past years.) Lovely to hear so many wood thrushes though, and thanks to eBird for making me actually count them!
