Hey everyone,
Jared Satchell and I birded on the western shore Sunday with a brief
stop on Old Skipton Rd in Talbot County on the way over. Highlights
include:
Black-bellied Whistling Ducks -- 5 Patterson Park
Green-winged Teal -- 1 Patterson Park
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron -- 10 Jones Falls
Cerulean Warbler -- 3 Mckeldin area of Patapsco River State Park
Hooded Warbler -- 1 Soldiers Delight
Grasshopper Sparrow -- 2 Soldiers Delight, Serpentine Trail
On the way over to the western shore we stopped in the Skipton Creek
lowlands along Old Skipton Rd where Dave Palmer had found a Warbling
Vireo on Saturday. This is a stellar find for Talbot County and was a
county bird for me. The bird was constantly singing in the Sycamores
along the south east side of the creek. We also had great looks at
the bird. Thanks, Dave!
The two Grasshopper Sparrows at Soldiers Delight were also a big
surprise. I have only seen Grasshopper Sparrow once in Baltimore
County up in the northeastern corner. These birds were not very
vocal. They only vocalized two or three times. Fortunately, I was
able to get a fairly decent photograph of one of the birds. These
birds represent the first records of Grasshopper Sparrows for Soldiers
Delight on ebird.
