We finally went to see the Dickcissels on Sunday evening. The male was singing from wires on the east side of the road past the green barn, at one point perching on a guy wire connected to a utility pole. One or the other of the birds, usually the female, went several times into brush near the guy wire, perched for a moment about 2' above the ground, and then went lower into the grass. We saw both birds with food in their bills, and Joe has posted a photo of the female with what looks like a caterpillar in its bill. He did not post the one of the male with food but it's available if anyone is interested.

He said he had to partially mow to remove the weeds that were growing in his crop. Not sure what the crop is but he uses it for bedding for his animals. Another field has his hay.

I saw a singing male on the wires just past the green barn after coming through the curvy part of the road. There were still large weedy areas on both sides of the road, but it looked like an adjacent area had been recently mowed.
