John,
The day that Jim Green, Fred & Jane Fallon and I saw the Calvert Diskcissel the farmer stopped and talked to us. He apologized for having to mow because he thought it could mess up our birding. He said he had to partially mow to remove the weeds that were growing in his crop. Not sure what the crop is but he uses it for bedding for his animals. Another field has his hay.

This morning I went to Turner Rd in southern Calvert County to look for the Dickcissels originally found last weekend by Joel Martin. I saw a singing male on the wires just past the green barn after coming through the curvy part of the road. There were still large weedy areas on both sides of the road, but it looked like an adjacent area had been recently mowed.
