Paul et all,

I grabbed this from the New York listserv regarding their MIKI's. The
information certainly could be applied locally, for those of us who
will be seeking a glimpse of the Hughes Hallow Kite. It is, of
course, extralimital... but the birder is from NEW Baltimore so...

As many have heard, the MISSISSIPPI KITE(s), is/are back at the nest
site as in last year; near the intersection of Donato and Mapletown
Roads, in the Town of Root (Ames), Montgomery County, NY.

If you are interested in seeing them, you might want to keep in mind
that their pattern is similar to that of about this time of the season
as in the past.

That is, that the adult(s) tend to stay away at parts unknown for very
long periods of time. And, when they do show up, they are usually
interested in a flying a direct line to the nest and quickly
disappear. So, same as in past years, unless you are very lucky, be
prepared to wait a very long time before getting a brief glimpse of
the bird(s).

On the other hand, once the young hatch out, if past patterns hold,
the parents will be more active around the nest site and visible more
often for extended periods as they often catch dragonflies in the air;
a beautiful show in itself.

Until then, I'll be keeping my hopes high for a great summer Kite
flight in Montgomery County.
