Hi Everybody:

My intentions when I left home this morning were to bird in the higher elevations in Frederick County, then spend several hours in Carroll County and then head to work for a few hours. Half way up I-270 traffic came to a standstill and then movement was very tedious and crawling at a snail's pace. I scrapped the idea of birding in Frederick County and slowly headed to Carroll County to concentrate on grassland and field species which breed in that part of the county.

Below are the highlights that I saw between 8:30 and 11:30 AM:

     Six Bridges Rd...1 A. Kestrel

Stream Club Rd...2 Baltimore Orioles...3 Eastern Meadowlarks...3 Grasshopper Sparrows...8 Cedar Waxwings

Six Bridges Rd. to the road closing at the bridge (a 1/2 mile stretch from the intersection of Mummas Ford Rd)...
1 Dickcissel...1 Prothonotary Warbler (at the end of the road where the bridge over the Monacacy River is closed (not found annually in Carroll County)...

     Keysville/Hagerstown Rd intersection...2 Grasshopper sparrows...1 Eastern Meadowlark...1 Dickcissel

Baumgardner Rd. S. (down to the bridge crossing Piney Creek and back)...In the wetland on the right side of the road just before the bridge...1 female Wood Duck with 4 young...5 young (almost fully grown) Hooded Mergansers which were later joined by an adult female which flew in....2 male Baltimore Orioles... back up at the intersection I heard 1 Willow Flycatcher and 1 Yellow Warbler.
