Morning all,
Yesterday afternoon around 3 PM I came up to the house to check on the dog, and was only away from the shop for perhaps 15 minutes or so. I left the door open (the "regular" door on the side, not the garage door, which was closed because it had been raining), and when I went back into the shop there was a bird, freaking out and flying frantically around the shop by the lights. I quickly turned off the light and opened the garage door, and the bird flew out the open door. This is the same method I use to rid the shop of bees and wasps. They seem to fly right out when they see the open space and the light coming in, especially when I turn off the shop lights. Anyway, the bird was an Eastern Kingbird (!), making the total for my "shop list" (birds that have actually been in the shop) 2; the other was a hummingbird.

This morning when I was out on the deck getting ready to walk around the yard with Peanut, I heard (yes I actually heard) a Grasshopper Sparrow sining loudly from the corner of the yard by our woodpile. It took me a long time to finally locate it; it was perched on a fence pole in our neighbors field, bordering the other neighbors humongous house. Sadly, the hayfields were all cut last week, so maybe it will take up residence in my small, uncut field in the backyard. One can hope...
