Today, June 15, Joe Byrnes, Jeff Culler, and I birded Caroline County. The
biggest surprise was a Eurasian Collared-Dove which Joe and I saw in flight.
This may be the first time a Eurasian Collard-Dove has been seen in Caroline
County. Location - Adkins Arborteum, Upland Walk and South Meadow Loop,
flying in the direction towards the Native Plant Nursery.

Description: Large dove with a broad tail that was straight across. In
flight, white on the end of the underside of the tail. Darker gray undertail
coverts allowed African Turtle-Dove to be ruled out. No white in the wing on
the dorsal side ruled out White-winged Dove. Dark black mark on neck.

This was the 40th Eurasian Collared-Dove that I have seen this year, in 24
different locations, but my first in Maryland for 2011.

Other highlights:

Tuckahoe State Park - Warbling Vireo, Prothonotary Warbler, Kentucky
Warbler, Blue Grosbeak.

Adkins Arboretun - complete list below.

Denton Thawley Rd - Eastern Meadowlark (Seen by Jeff as we drove along Rt
404).

Denton WWTP - Northern Rough-winged Swallow (a close-out for Joe H), Bank
Swallow.

Subway in Denton - They made me stop for lunch but we took it to go.

Idylwild WMA - Noble Rd - Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Poplar Neck Marsh - Purple Martin, Marsh Wren, Yellow-breasted Chat.

Tanyard Marsh - Common Moorhen (2 or 3 spotted by Joe B, eventually Jeff and
I got to see them), Least Tern.
