JOHN (BUD) W. TAYLOR EXHIBITION IN ANNAPOLIS, June 24-July 28.
There will be an exhibition of Bud Taylor’s recent art at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, June 24-July 28. Bud’s art has been showcased in his books, including Chesapeake spring (Johns Hopkins U. Pr., 1998) and Birds of the Chesapeake Bay (Johns Hopkins, 1992) as well as the lovely cover painting of Baltimore Orioles for the first Maryland breeding bird atlas (U. of Pittsburgh Pr., 1996) and in many another milieu.
This exhibition is entitled “Chesapeake Bay, landscapes and wildlife,” and also features carvings by Ernie Muehlmatt and Kathy Boyle. For those of you who may not be aware (shame on you), Bud’s associations with Maryland nature go way back into the 1940s when he first took part in Christmas counts and consorted with Brooke Meanley, Chan Robbins, et al., and other natural history lights of that time. Bud’s yard list at his Edgewater place is impressive.
The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is at 801 Chase Street (near the state offices), Annapolis 21401, 410-263-5544 (main office), 410-280-5640 (box office), . The opening is June 24 (this Friday), 6-7:30 P.M., with introductions of the artists at 5:30 P.M., 2nd floor, Chaney Gallery.
I am especially attracted to the settings of his paintings, the moods, skies, backgrounds, and light effects, which often reflect the glory of autumn’s subtle, marshy browns, and are reminiscent in this respect of the contexts of Peter Scott’s bird portraits.
Best to all. – Harry Armistead.
