Spent a couple days birding in Garrett Co. with my girlfriend Amanda last weekend. It rained both mornings until 9 am so we were somewhat hampered by that but the rest of both days were very nice. We really enjoyed Garrett State Forest, Herrington Manor, Swallow Falls, and New Germany State Parks. Some of the highlights included breeding birds rare or absent in other parts of the state. Among the list of probable breeders we found Dark-eyed Juncos, Blackburnian Warblers, Magnolia Warblers, Black-throated Green, Black-throated Blue, and Chestnut-sided Warblers, as well as Hermit Thrush, Veery, Brown Creeper, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Blue-headed Vireo, Black-capped Chickadee, Common Raven, Willow Flycatcher, Bobolinks, and good sparrow diversity with Song, Field, Savannah, Grasshopper, Vesper, and Henslow's Sparrows. The Henslow's (at least 2) were found on Pea Ridge Rd north of Lancaster Hill Rd in eastern Garrett. All the other species were found in Garrett S.F. unless noted otherwise. Full list below.
