As Tim Houghton mentioned, the Black-necked Stilts were there earlier in the day. Both were actively feeding in the South Cell when I saw them. I hope they are nesting, but I did want to caution that Black-necked Stilts will sit on the ground occasionally, not just when on nest.

Also, yesterday was my first decent look at the scaup that has been hanging out in the North Cell. It looked more like a Greater than a Lesser to me, but the shimmer makes the middle of the day not the ideal time to identify such birds. At least it was overcast this visit, the first time I saw it, I could barely tell it was a scaup.

No Black-Rail vocals early afternoon. I received a couple of nasty bites from
eerfly, so use bug spray if bugs like you as much as they like me.

Today was my first time at this interesting spot and I stayed a couple of
ours. I don't think I found anything too unusual, based on what I recall from
he listserv. Nice views of 2 BNstilts, and a wonderful close view of a YBcuckoo
n the way to look for the rail. (Also a ybc singing from the parking
rea--don't know if it was the same or different from the one I saw down the
ath.) 3 egrets: snowy, great, cattle. A mottled little blue heron. A glossy
bis. Least tern. Ran into a couple of other birders who got other stuff, I
hink. From real far away, a song sounded like maybe a summer tanager, but I
ust don't know.
