Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from June 21,2011
This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, June
2011, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.
Note the presence of American Avocet, Ruddy Turnstone, Dunlin,
White-rumped Sandpiper, and Short-billed Dowitcher. Also a possibly nesting
Black-crowned Night Heron, and high numbers for DC Cormorant, Mallard and
Willet.
