We saw a male Dickcissel off Patuxent River Rd. in the clump of trees behind the thistle field as well as a Blue Grosbeak Saturday evening. We also met Golf Course Superintendent Tom on his golf cart rounds who indicated the thistle field would soon become a development of new homes.

There were four fledgling tree swallows lined up on the rack of the white pickup near the trailers waiting for regular food deliveries from an adult.

Earlier we saw Fred Shaffer's black crowned night heron roosting in the tree above Schoolhouse Pond.

Yesterday morning, after hearing sounds from the woodstove in our sunroom, we determined a bird had fallen down the chimney. We opened the door to the stove and then one to the outside and soon an ash-covered sparrow emerged and found its way out. We will affix a scrren to the top of the pipe to prevent recurrences.
