Disgusting.

It hopefully is under investigation, but it is unlikely it was a hunter. Not a legal one, anyway. There is no hunting season open now in MD. Further, there is no target shooting on any DNR or state forest land, at any time of year. Both are illegal now. The only legal exception at this time of year is for shooting groundhogs. I have seen them in a tree before (they are fond of apples), but obviously it is highly unlikely this was an accidental or incidental shooting from someone hunting groundhogs. You cannot discharge a gun for any other reason on state lands at this time of year. There is a very remote possibility that it occurred during MD's spring turkey season, which ended on May 23, but it seems like this incident had to happen after that. Based on the mention of chicks and an adult found, etc., I think a predator or scavenger would likely have found and eaten their remains if this had occurred that long ago.

Massively irreprehensible. I hope a large reward brings out the locals there in search of the culprit. Given the so called poor state of our economy, it is likely that someone would be willing to turn in a dirty neighbor - for the right amount of money.

Let's hope this valuable opportunity to inform and educate the public is not missed. I hope the media follows up on this story and the news ges better...
