Hi All,

Sometimes I feel like a glutton for punishment - and that is what normally visiting an urban reservoir in June makes me (read: no birds)!

None the less, I've been visiting McMillan Reservoir pretty frequently with only starlings, catbirds, and the odd Canada Goose and Killdeer.

Well to my surprise, I saw a small bird resting out by the brick intake structure at the north end of the water.  It was small, had possibly some white around the head and little to no tail.  Getting my binos out, I was happy to confirm my suspicion - a beautiful male ruddy duck.  I took some okay photos and can share them if anyone is interested!

Cheers!

P.S. If anyone is interested in looking for the bird, McMillan Reservoir is roughly just east of Harvard ST. and Georgia.  If coming from the west, you go east on Harvard St past Georgia ave to 5th St. NW.  look for parking on Harvard, or make two quick rights and park on a side street (Gresham Pl).
