I just received this from George Jett, who asked that it be reposted to MDOsprey.

Subject: MOS Accepting Donations for Goshawk Reward Fund

Dear MOS Presidents,

As most of you are probably aware by now, Maryland's only nesting Northern Goshawk

and her three chicks were found dead on June 6 in Savage River State Forest near Grantsville,

Garrett County. The female goshawk was shot and the chicks subsequently starved.

Unsurprisingly, there is a quite a sense of outrage and sadness in the birding community

and beyond over this unconscionable crime. Immediately upon release of this news on

June 22, the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus announced that they were

offering a $1000 reward for anyone providing information leading to the arrest and

conviction of the perpetrator. Many in the Maryland birding community expressed a

desire to contribute additional donations to increase the reward amount. After a few

days of discussion on the best way to react to this call, the Executive Council has

decided to start a Goshawk Reward Fund towards this objective.

The following attachment, which is now posted on the MOS website, contains information

on how those wanting to make a donation to this fund can do so. Please read this

attachment, and notify your membership that it can be found on the MOS website by

following links off the "Special Notices" block of the home page, or directly at

www.mdbirds.org/conservation/endangered/GoshawkReward.pdf.

Thank you for your timely response to this message.
