All 3 scoters were at the Ocean City Inlet this morning and joined by a
juvenile male Common Eider. The flock was south of the South Jetty and only
about 150 yards from shore. Many small fishing boats were on both sides of
the jetty and probably pushed the birds to this location. 6 Wilson's
Storm-Petrels were at the entrance to the inlet. A large shearwater was
flying at the distant horizon but too far to safely id in the haze and heat
shimmer. Only saw 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls on the north end of the
island.

Skimmer Island continues to have Red Knots, White-rumped Sandpipers,
Short-billed Dowitchers, and Sandwich Terns.

At West Ocean City Pond there was a single Yellow-crowned Night-Heron
roosting with the many other herons and egrets.

On my way to OC, I made a brief stop at Scott Bennett Rd, Wicomico County.
Before I got out of the car, I heard Red-headed Woodpecker and
Yellow-breasted Chat. I then saw both birds along with Cedar Waxwing, Pine
Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Summer Tanager, and Blue
Grosbeak plus some common species.

I picked up my Duck Stamp at the Simpsonville Post Office on Shaker Dr in
Columbia, MD. This years "duck" is a Greater White-fronted Goose. They have
several more in stock. For only $15 you get unlimited admissions to National
Wildlife Refuges from July 1st to June 30th. If you go to the National
Seashore at Assateague Island or Chincoteague, show your Duck Stamp and pay
an additional $15 for a years visit to these two locations.
