When we did the Atlas in Sligo, we always found Black-crowns at the
storm-water ponds at Dennis Drive, which is upstream from Colesville
Rd. We never saw Yellow-crowns there...

This posting may only be of interest to those who have birded in Sligo
Creek Parkway, but I found it unusual to see one Black-crowned night
heron yesterday.  I walk in this park frequently and it's the first time
I've
seen a Black-crowned (it was about 1/2 mile west of Colesville Rd,
standing in the creek).  I also spotted 4 Yellow-crowned night herons (1
adult; 3 fledglings), Acadian flycatcher, Wood thrush, Blue-gray
gnatcatcher, Belted kingfisher, young Canada geese, young Mallards, and
all the resident birds.
