The highlight from my morning walk around Schoolhouse Pond was a juvenile Pied-billed Grebe swimming in the open towards the middle of the pond. I watched the bird for several minutes as it swam slowly and dove from time to time. It was still present and visible when I left. Also present was the Black-crowned Night Heron, perched again in its usual tree on the left side of the short boardwalk leading to the townhouse offices. I saw it there four of five days last week as well. Also of note was a singing 1st summer Orchard Oriole and a singing adult male Baltimore Oriole, which gave close, low views as it foraged.
