Spent the Sunday morning birding in Q.A. County at Wye Island Natural Resource Management Area. Highlights for me included a singing male Dickcissel, heard well and seen breifly perched on a fence on Carmichael Rd just north of Wye Narrows at a cattle ranch. Also present here were at least 6 Grasshopper Sparrows, possible many more, including a couple juveniles and at least 6-8 E. Meadowlarks. The management area itself didn't have anything unusual but we had great looks at Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Blue Grosbeaks, Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Bald Eagles, etc.

We stopped at Ches Bay Env Center on the way back to primarily check on the pond in hopes of some shorebird action, but did not see any at all (except one fylover Killdeer). There were about 15 Snowy Egrets, 10 Green Herons, and a couple of Great Egrets. There were several Least Terns and Forster's Terns with both adults and juveniles present. A few other expected species present including several active Brown-headed Nuthatches but generally quiet in the early afternoon heat. The water level in the pond is quite high now with almost no available shorebird habitat, which hopefully changes soon.

Good Birding,
