This morning I found an immature WHITE IBIS in a pond at the corner of
Rose Hill Rd and Route 6 in Port Tobacco, Charles County. I texted John
Hubbell who came down to see it. On his way over, he found a Snowy Egret
at the Port Tobacco Marina (off of Shirley Blvd). I was already 15
minutes away by that time, birding Myrtle Grove, but returned to Port
Tobacco anyway to see if I could relocate the Snowy. In the meantime,
John refound the White Ibis and then found an additional WHITE IBIS
(another immature) in a pond on the south side of Route 6, just west of
Chapel Point Rd. You can view this pond by parking at the church on
Warehouse Landing Rd/Commerce St and walking behind the building.
John then headed south towards Cobb, but didn't get far before I found
an immature Little Blue Heron at the Marina, making him turn around and
return to Port Tobacco. When John got back, there were two Little Blues
and a Snowy, which we both got satisfactory looks of as they flew around
the marsh, dipping in and out of hidden streams. Afterward, we both went
back to the pond on Rose Hill Rd X Rt 6 and found the two ibises
together (digibinned photo below). Clearly birds have begun dispersing.
