See Life Paulagics ( http://www.paulagics.com ), led by Paul Guris, hosted another succesffuly pelagic trip out of Lewes DE this past Sunday, 8/14/11.  It was a long trip, leaving at 4:30 am and not getting back till 8:30 pm, but well worth the effort.  The extra length allowed considerable time in the deep water (south of the MD-DE line!!) at the mouth of Baltimore Canyoun and to the north, in Wilmington Canyon.  Seas were good, with minimal mal de mar (Bill Hubick doesn't really count on that score).  The thunderstorm we went through on the way back (and the resultant 180 degree rainbow) just added to the excitment!!  Just glad Mikey Lutmerding is taller than I.

Anyway, the MD bird list was as follows:

Cory's Shearwater 36 (1 diomedea)

Greater Shearwater 28

Audubon's Shearwater 7  (one very cooperative bird, photos at http://www.pbase.com/wcbirding/image/137321213 )

Wilson's Storm-Petrel 345

Leach's Storm-Petrel 3

Pomarine Jaeger 2 (one incredibly cooperative individual at a chum slick along the MD-DE line, two photos at ht tp://www.pbase.com/wcbirding/image/137321170 )

Black-bellied Plover 10

Folks interested in a detailed log of the bird sightings and/or kml file of the track we took can shoot me an email; participants interested in "sharing" a series of eBird trip records should left Bill Hubick know.

Thanks again to all the participants; I hope we find something nice on the 8-man overnight trip this Sunday-Monday.

Calm seas,

Mark Hoffman
