Sorry for late post. After reading Peter Lev's encouraging post of the day
before, I decided to do a re-trace of the Red Trail. After I got started, it
seemed two guys on some kind of motorized mower/golf cart decided to
take an extended joy ride of said trail, each time spreading copious
amounts of foul-smelling fumes and cacophonous noise on each swipe
of four (4) passes during the first half of my 3 1/2 hr. stroll. To say I was
annoyed was putting it mildly. At any rate, I only detected 19 spp. of birds
and only 1 "fall" bird for me, the GC FLYCATCHER--and no warblers.
As some might've noticed, I have an eye out for mushrooms and the
recent rains kicked up a sizeable no. of same in a variety of sizes and
colors, somewhat soothing my ruffled feathers. The bird count follows:
M Dove
Downey W'pkr*
N Flicker
E W-Pewee*
GC Flycatcher*
Fish Crow*
C C'dee
T Tit"
C Wren"
E Bluebird
A Robin
G Catbird
N Mock'bird
E Starling
Chipping Sparrow
E Towhee*
N Cardinal
I Bunting*
A Goldfinch
Also:
6 spp. of Amanita's, incl. A. virosa (deadly) and A. rubescens (edible)
bright orange Cantharellus cibarius (edible)
lovely violet-tinted Tylopilus plumbeoviolaceus
scarlet capped Russula emetica
shaggy-white Coprinus comatus ("lawyer's wig"-edible)
a host of other colorful 'shrooms
Red-spotted Purple B'fly
