Hi all,
The power finally came on in that 3rd world corner of Montgomery County
that is Mowbray Road -- where you lose power for a couple of days even
in clear weather. (thanks PEPCO)
Barry and I went out this morning and made it without incident over to
Gravelly Point, where we were in phone contact with the bunch at Hains.
We arrived to late for the Arctic tern, alas, but did see two Royals out
over
the river, one immature and one adult -- both gave close fly-bys. We also
had 2-3 Black terns, a loose flock of about 20 Bank Swallows and an
immature Little Blue Heron. Other than that, not too much unusual. Quite a
few Forster's and Caspian terns about, though.
Many gulls on the grass at the point (this is, of course, not DC) and a lot
of
roosting gulls and terns on the end of the runway -- again nothing out of
the ordinary.
Down to Dangerfield Island (quiet) and then on to Old Town waterfront
(quiet) and finally, Belle Haven. Many birds on the flats and hydrilla
there,
again not in MD but we did have 9 Black terns together which flew out into
MD waters on at least one occasion.
Not quite as active as hoped -- well this is supposed to be an active
hurricane season so who knows?
