Hi all,

I was just reading through The Works of Theodore Roosevelt - a great  
series of books printed in 1926 - and in one of the volumes he  
included his bird list from the White House grounds and from other  
areas near the White House.

The link to the page on Google Books where it can also be found is too  
long to post here, so, go to books.google.com and do a search on  
"President Roosevelt's list of birds".  It will be the third item that  
comes up.  The title is "The Works of Theodore Roosevelt - Through the  
Brazilian Wilderness, etc...page 409"    You can zoom in for easier  
reading.

Just thought it might be fun reading - apologies if this has ever been  
posted to MDOsprey before.  I searched the MDOsprey archives and  
didn't see that it had.

One excerpt:
"Sparrow Hawk.  A pair spent the last two winters on and around the  
White House grounds, feeding on the sparrows - largely, thank Heaven,  
on English sparrows."

This list was originally published in "Birds of Washington and  
Vicinity" by L.W. Maynard.
