Have you hugged a vulture today?

In other news, I found a Mourning Warbler at Severn Run in Millersville, MD (AA County), on Dicus Mill Road.

I first found this bird of interest yesterday afternoon, but had no luck luring it out of the brush with my own sad attempts at screech whistling. At the time I was thinking Connecticut Warbler, because the birds chip note sounded so dry.

This morning I returned (this time with my iPhone charged) and played COWA chip note. The bird responded, but was on the other side of the road from where I'd heard it yesterday. The bird got up, hoped up into a small tree on the North side of the road, West of the stream crossing. I lost it in the tree, but soon heard it chipping away on the South side of the road in the hedge where I'd heard it Friday.

I got a better look at the bird, confirming that it wasn't a COWA, but a 1st Winter Mourning Warbler. I attempted three times to get a photo, but from what I can tell... I got some great leaf shots.

Also present:
5 Barred Owl
1 Hooded Warbler (poss 2)
2 American Redstart
1 Chestnut-sided Warbler
1 Magnolia Warbler
1 Scarlet Tanager
2 Blue Gray Gnatcatchers
2 Eastern Wood Pewee

Later, I enjoyed the two Black Terns were still foraging on the river at Jackson Landing's observation platform in PG. A Summer Tanager called from the trees right behind the platform while I scoped the river.

There was no sign of the White Ibis, or any shorebirds, but the tide was high.

Good Birding,
