The Yellowbook's [The Field List of the Birds of Maryland's] latest (3rd) edition is 1996 (see below regarding a possible 4th edition). The 1968 version as well as current (?) county lists can be accessed on-line:
http://www.mdbirds.org/publications/yellowbook/yellowbook.html
where there will also be found information about ordering - price was $4.20, but that may include shipping. I see them quite frequently in used bookstores for a couple of $$.

BTW there is mention that "preparation for the fourth edition is underway. This major revision, with
Matthew Hafner, Marshall Iliff, Robert Ringer and Norman Saunders as compilers,
is expected to be available in mid-2005," is this not yet available?  This is NOT to be taken as a complaint...

Suggestion:
Since MD's flag has colors other than yellow,  and following the recent example of the football team and the men's BB team over the years, perhaps the next edition could use a different color, so people would start to refer to it by name rather than color?

Hummers in S FRED county:
I never had my feeder (hummzinger 3 port) run dry this season as it has in the past - i refresh it (5 oz) twice a week.  Also, reduced traffic to it was obvious in terms of less frequent bird to bird conflict.  Another difference from past seasons was the preponderance of male (or A male) hummers as visitors incl a visit today.  A last difference to note from previous years:  ants found the feeder this year.  I believe i let the moat  run dry on one occasion and the ants were a constant after that with a pause during the recent wet weather.  The birds didn't like that, but were tolerant of the situation.
