I led a small group from the Carroll County Bird Club to Fort Smallwood
Park in Anne Arundel County yesterday morning. I was joined by Maureen &
Dave Harvey, and Don Jewell. It was very birdy for passerines. There was
little action over the bay with a distant Black Tern being the only notable
bird. With overcast skies there were few hawks to be seen; a Kestrel and a
highflying Osprey being the only likely migrants.
Other migrants scattered throughout the park:
Great Egret 1, flying toward the harbor
Chimney Swift 10
*Red-headed Woodpecker* - 1 adult in trees along the beach
Pewee 1
Unidentified Empidonax 1
Red-eyed Vireo 3
House Wren 1
Catbird 5
Black-&-white Warbler 1
*Connecticut Warbler -* 1 immature, seen well, perhaps the best view I have
ever had of one as it was mostly in an open area
Yellowthroat 5
Redstart 3
Cape May Warbler 4
Parula 2
Bay-breasted Warbler 1
Blackburnian Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1
Western Palm Warbler 2
Pine Warbler 3, still singing
Chipping Sparrow 35
Indigo Bunting 1

Later Don and I stopped at Fort Armistead Park. The only bird we added there
was a Magnolia Warbler.
