The hummingbirds must be trying to get all the rest they can in
preparation for their big flight. I'll explain in a sec...

I've had four around for some time now. There are three hummers that
fight over the front feeder and plants, and one fat bird that just
perches out right next to my back yard feeder, like he owns the place.

Tonight as I examined my flock, I was afforded the opportunity to
watch one hummer fall asleep (or at least try to) on the feeder. It
was feeding one second, and the next... drooped down and turned upside
down like a bat. I put some photos and videos on my flickr site, but
it was getting dark, so they're not the best. Nevertheless, what an
interesting behavior to observe.

On the way to the grocery store I stopped by Greenbury Point for
literally ten minutes. Best birds on the small nature trail behing
the building were three Common Yellowthroat, an Indigo Bunting, three
House Wrens, a Song Sparrow and a Prairie Warbler.

Good Birding,
