Hi All,

on the way home from town late this afternoon (5:15 PM) i stopped at the 
Chestertown Treatment Plant as seen from John Hanson Rd. The corn there 
is uncut but it's relatively short and a bit beaten down by Irene and 
later thunderstorms. The best bird was a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE swimming 
in the west end of the of the pond (closer to the Chester River). Also 
present were 14 Blue-winged Teal, 3 American Wigeon, 90 Northern 
Shovelers,6 Caspian Terns, 3 Chimney Swifts, 100 Tree Swallows, and a 
Palm Warbler (in the corn). The geese are finally back in some force 
with 400 Canadas present in the area. My e-bird list is appended below.

Red-necked Phalarope  1     Swimming at west end of filtration pond along a pipe, at length it flew to swim along the west margin of the pond. Distinguished from Red Phalarope by amount of black on crown and nape (relatively thick, diffuse stripe down nape), fairly long and slender neck (bill length/shape hard to tell due to distance and relatively dim lighting), black stripes alternating with incoming gray basic mantle feathers, relatively narrow wing stripe, and dark areas on under wing coverts.
