Hi Everyone,

Jim Brighton, John Hubbell, and I birded in Kent and Cecil Counties today (2 Oct 2011). At the end of the day, Jim and I made a couple stops in Queen Anne's.

Our main goal for the day was to relocate at least one of the RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS that Dan Small found at Eastern Neck NWR this past Friday (30 Sep). While we didn't have any luck along Box Point Trail, we found a nice adult at Dan's other location (on the main road just before the left turn to Bogle's Wharf)--a county bird for all three of us and John's closeout! Congrats, John, and thank you, Dan!

Other highlights today included 15 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS over the Chesapeake Farms Driving Tour in Kent Co and a NORTHERN SHOVELER, a BLUE-WINGED TEAL, and a CAPE MAY WARBLER at the Bethel MHA in Cecil Co.

Other warblers at one or more locations in Kent and Cecil today were Northern Parula, PRAIRIE WARBLER, Black-throated Green Warbler, American Redstart, Black-and-white Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Pine Warbler, Palm Warbler (western), Myrtle Warbler, and Common Yellowthroat. Detailed lists will find their way to eBird eventually...

In Queen Anne's Co, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were at the turf farm on John Brown Rd, and a STILT SANDPIPER was with 3 Lesser Yellowlegs at the Quail Covey Farm Pond (eastern pond on Rt 309).

Too bad we didn't cross paths with that Red-necked Phalarope in Kent--great find, Walter!

Have fun,
