Rob,
Thank you for clarifying the exact location of the phalarope. When I read
your original message stating that it was in Jug Bay I immediately entered
it into the database as Anne Arundel County. Unfortunately Jug Bay is one of
the worst dilemmas for us recordkeepers. Most reports of birds at Jug Bay
are not specified as to county. Years ago I gave up trying to track down the
exact locations of all the reports. There were just too many. Since the body
of water known as Jug Bay appears to be entirely within Anne Arundel County
I decided that any report of birds at Jug Bay would be designated in that
county. I believe the county line is still the old riverbed as shown on all
the maps I have seen. Please correct me if I'm wrong. A further complication
is the designation of The Jug Bay Natural Area encompassing a large part of
Prince George's County which could encourage observers to report birds at
Merkle or Patuxent River Park as being at Jug Bay.
This is just a plea from a poor clerk for geographical correctness in
reporting.

By the way, the database now has 28 reports of Red Phalarope in Maryland
and DC west of the Ocean City area.
