It was one of those mornings where I grabbed my binoculars, stepped out
to fetch the newspaper, and was gone for 15 minutes -- more typical of
May than late October! In one remarkably birdy corner of the yard, I saw
5 species of woodpecker: Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-bellied, Downy,
Flicker, and a busy pair of Pileateds. The trees were alive with flocks
of waxwings, bluebirds, yellow-rumps and robins, along with several
chipping sparrows and the usual assortment of chickadees, jays, etc. All
in all, quite a treat to start the day.
