I went out for a run this morning and had no sooner turned the end of the block onto MacArthur Blvd when I saw a dead bird next to the road. It was about the size of a Starling which was what I was expecting and was really surprised when I got closer to see it was a Virginia Rail.  It must've been hit by a car earlier this morning. This is a suburban area with no wetlands so I guess it had either been in one of the very small ditches next to the road or in a patch of weeds in someone's yard. Unfortunately I can't stretch this one to the yard list.  It was an adult bird as far as I can tell with no sign of molt limits on the coverts.  I guess its interesting to find a bird like that here but the circumstances are sad.

I also had a Black-throated Green Warbler in the yard this morning. I think that's a late date for a non-Myrtle warbler in our yard.

Good birding
