Evening all,

SATURDAY:
Anne Arundel County. Around noon, I got an email from a friend and
fellow birder informing me about a brownish Hummingbird visiting a
feeder near her home in Southern Anne Arundel. Permission was given
for us to visit and attempt to get some photos. Unfortunately, none of
the photos show that famous spread-tail, often making the ID a little
bit easier. Yes, banders were called and happily arrived first thing
this morning. The trap was set, the bird soon appeared, sat on the
wire used in the trap, laughed (or so I was told) and flew off. It
was not seen the remainder of today. Photos are viewable here:

Since the bird was on private property, I'm sure everyone understands
the importance of respecting the homeowners. If the bird returns,
I'll keep all appraised of any news on ID, or if banding was
successful. KEEP YOUR FEEDERS OUT, FULL and CLEAN, as the season is
now officially upon us!

SUNDAY:
Frode Jacobsen picked me up around 4:30 AM and we made our way down to
Assateague. Birds were everywhere and if you haven't had a chance to
see a Myrtle Warbler, I highly recommend visiting. ; )

Some highlights from our day on the shore:
-Bayside: a cooperative PURPLE FINCH
-Life of the Dunes: Frode found an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, his first
of two OCWA's today!
-Life of the Forest: RED CROSSBILL. Bird called for a good bit from
the tops of the pines just N of the parking lot. We walked / birded
the Oceanside Campground, and when we returned, we were amazed to hear
the bird vocalizing once again. Also of note, Black-throated Green
Warbler, Winter Wrens, Hermit Thrush, Pine Siskin, Bonaparte's Gulls
(2), Brown-headed Nuthatch.
-Oceanside Campground: LARK SPARROW, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW,
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA.
-Rum Pointe Golf Course, where we found the continuing Common
Gallinule and then another, accompanied by three Blue-winged Teal and
3 American Coot.
-OC Inlet: two PURPLE SANDPIPERS, our FOS.

Also of note: Tree Swallows, all three Scoters, Common Loons and
Double-crested Cormorants were in ABUNDANCE (in addition to the
Myrtles) today!
