Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch- Friday October 28th 2011

The coldest day of the season so far-crisp air, clear sky, bright sun and vivid fall colors. Irresistible for hawk watchers! Just after 9:00 AM several groups of Turkey Vultures arose from their roosts and quickly headed south totaling over 140 birds. Dozens more followed over the next several hours. The clear blue sky, while beautiful, hindered us from spotting the already high flying Sharpies and Redtails. By 11:00 AM a few wispy clouds appeared and immediately revealed not only raptors, but southbound Loons as well.
