Very soon after I got to Swan Harbor, around 10:45, I found a Nelson's Sharp-Tailed Sparrow about 100 yards west of the blind. It popped up to say hello and hung around the edge of the cattails for 3-5 minutes, affording magnificent views. About a minute after I found it, Elaine Beery and Jean Wheeler joined me--along with a fellow from D.C. for whom the bird was a lifer. Eventually the bird flew across the path and disappeared into some dark green grasses, and that was that. An extraordinary few minutes! Most cooperative Nelly I've ever come across.
