I birded Sandy Point State Park for several hours this morning and early afternoon. The highlight was an adult male Snow Bunting. The bird was foraging in the grass near the beach; visible from the parking lot that overlooks the lighthouse and small boat launch. I watched it for 35 minutes or so and was even able to approach within 20 feet to get some nice photos. Other birds included 1 "Yellow" Palm Warbler, 8 Buffleheads, a low Golden-crowned Kinglet, 8 or 9 Eastern Bluebirds, a Hermit Thrush (perched on a picnic table), five Yellow-rumped Warblers, and several of the common species of sparrows. Gulls included 91 Ring-billed, 10 Herring, 5 Great Black-backed, and 5 Laughing Gulls.
