Today a friend and I went to MLK Pond( in the Colesville-White Oak area of Montgomery County )from 2:00-3:00 pm.  We saw a Pied-billed Grebe in the pond just diving away.  We continued to walk on the path as it went into the woods and we stopped on the bridge to continue looking at the Grebe but to our surprise we saw something else looking at  us.  Sitting on on a rather low limb on a bare tree was a first year Sharp-shinned Hawk!  He also turned around  for us so we could see his beautiful tail.

As usual in and around the pond were 80 Canada Geese.

Just to let you know this is not a huge pond but the ducks are visible from  a car so if someone has trouble walking this would be a nice birding site.
