I spent about two thirds of the day birding in Montgomery County
yesterday, November 20th. I started at Blue Mash where it was rather quiet.
The ponds held no dabbling ducks apart from Mallards. The highlights were
several singing Fox Sparrows and a Northern Harrier hunting over the mound.

From there I went to Black Hill RP where I scoped the lake briefly
from the bridge. Visibility was great, but the balmy weather brought out
more boaters than usual for this late in the year and so most of the
waterfowl were absent or tucked out of view. Highlights included one male
Redhead and one female Lesser Scaup.

Next I visited the Potomac at Riley's and Pennyfield Locks. The
highlight at Riley's Lock was a single Common Loon. At Pennyfield the
impoundments held only Mallards, but I was pleased to find two Rusty
Blackbirds foraging in the grass on the edge of the second impoundment.
