I think we were on Bollinger Road when Laura spotted a raptor in a tree over
by a creek and grabbed her binocs saying something about a white head. Yes,
it was an adult BALD EAGLE.
We weren't expecting that. We did breakfast in Thurmont and then did
what I do best - we meandered. Got 4 woodpecker species in the Catoctins and
then added the Flicker somewhere on Long's Mill Rd. A Red-headed would have
given us a sixth so we stopped at a park near Taneytown where we had them
before but couldn't find any today. Wasn't for lack of trying.

As for those of you that have never tried it, I recommend meandering. If you
don't have anywhere to go and aren't in a hurry it is easily the best means
of getting there. You might even stumble onto a Bald Eagle somewhere.

At home I found 22 RINGNECKS on the lake across the road. Haven't had a lot
of ducks this fall. Anybody else notice low numbers of them?

Now meandering around the house in Carroll County
