See Life Paulagics is again planning a "Dovekie Hunt" out of Lewes, DE on
Sat, Feb 11. We'll again be aboard either the Thelma Dale IV or Thelma
Dale V sailing out of Fisherman's Wharf. Both boats are comfortable with a
birdable top deck, heated cabin, and separate men's and ladies facilities.
As always we'll have plenty of leaders to help spot, identify, and get
people on the birds.
Now that we've discovered how to find Dovekies in our area, this trip has
consistently produced numbers of them that range from a disappointing
sub-100 total to a mind-blowing count of over 4,000. This trip has also
found Atlantic Puffin, Common and Thick-billed Murre, numbers of
Razorbills, Northern Fulmar, and Red Phalarope. By chumming as we go we've
also attracted Glaucous, Iceland, Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and
Bonaparte's Gulls, Black-legged Kittiwake, and Northern Gannet. We also
see nearshore birds on our way out like Common and Red-throated Loons, all
3 scoters (White-wingeds tend to be further offshore than Surf or Black),
and other sea ducks.
The trip cost is $175. The boat sails at 6:00 AM, returning at roughly

For bird ID preparation you might check out "Paulagic Birding" on
Facebook. We will be putting photos of birds this trip is targeting so
people can study them. There is already a set of photos from our Nov. 19
trip out of Delaware showing Bonaparte's Gulls, Kittiwakes, various Gannet
plumages, and other species.
