Parked at the light rail facility about noon for a quick check on the nutmeg mannikin and red-headed w'pkr. No
joy on the mannikin. As I was nearing the end of the board
walk, walking east, I heard crows overhead. Looking up, I saw about 50 pass in a NW direction. As I continued east, I
saw many more heading west along the ridgeline, some
briefly stopping on the tops of trees, as they made their
way west. Fewer numbers would head SW or NW. All told, their numbers would easily be a thousand. I heard the stuttering call notes of the RHWO before it showed. I missed the mannikin again, retracing my steps to the car.
On a whim, I made a quick dash up to the Best Buy gull flock at Hunt Valley and again whiffed. As I sat in my parked car I noticed quite a few cars quickly heading for a
nearby exit point. They did NOT stay in the lanes between the empty parking spaces, where the gulls were; rather, the drivers took the most direct route to the exit, human nature being what it is. The birds easily evaded them. I did
not detect any murderous (there's that word again) inten-
tions on the part of the drivers. Also, there was a Chic-fil-A
the other side of the exit to speed them on their way!!
